  • Your files travel straight between Google and your browser. They never touch a server of ours, because we don’t have any.
  • Processing runs on your device, exactly as it does with a file from your computer.
  • The app can only access the files you pick and the ones it saves to your Drive. Never the rest.
  • Access expires after one hour and is never stored. This browser only remembers your name and email so you can reconnect in one click; you can disconnect at any time.

How to use “Compress to X KB”

  1. Add the photo or photos you need to upload (iPhone HEIC files work too).
  2. Pick the maximum size the form asks for, or type another one in “Exact limit”.
  3. Click “Reduce to under…”: each image is adjusted on its own.
  4. Download the result and check the size shown next to its name.

How the target size is reached

First the image is re-encoded at its original dimensions, lowering the quality only as much as needed, with a search that tries several qualities and keeps the highest one that fits. If it still does not fit at quality 50 (a 12-megapixel phone photo in 100 KB, for example), the resolution is reduced in the required proportion too, because below that quality text and faces blur sooner than when pixels are removed. If your image already weighed less than the limit and is in the chosen format, you get the original back untouched. KB are counted as 1,000 bytes, so the file passes even if the portal uses the other convention.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ShiftAny Images processes your images directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from “Compress Image”?

There you pick the quality and see the resulting size. Here you pick the maximum size and the tool finds the quality (and, if needed, the resolution) that meets it: exactly what you need when a form rejects files over X KB.

Why did the pixel dimensions change?

Because at the lowest sensible quality the photo was still above the limit. Lowering the resolution keeps the image clean; lowering the quality further would fill it with artifacts. Each file’s note shows its final dimensions.

JPG or WebP?

JPG, unless the form accepts WebP: every government portal and job site takes it. WebP gives better quality at the same size, but some sites still reject it.

Can I use iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. They are read in your browser and saved directly as JPG or WebP under the chosen size, with no need to convert them first.
