  • Your files travel straight between Google and your browser. They never touch a server of ours, because we don’t have any.
  • Processing runs on your device, exactly as it does with a file from your computer.
  • The app can only access the files you pick and the ones it saves to your Drive. Never the rest.
  • Access expires after one hour and is never stored. This browser only remembers your name and email so you can reconnect in one click; you can disconnect at any time.

How to use “HEIC to JPG”

  1. Add one or more HEIC or HEIF photos (the ones in your iPhone camera roll).
  2. Choose JPG (works everywhere), WebP (lighter) or PNG (lossless).
  3. Adjust the quality if you like and click “Convert to…”.
  4. Download each converted photo or all of them together in a ZIP.

Why your computer will not open HEIC files

HEIC is the format the iPhone has used since iOS 11: it stores the photo with the HEVC codec at half the size of a JPG, but Windows, Android, many websites and almost every browser except Safari cannot open it. To convert it without uploading it anywhere, your browser downloads the libheif decoder once (about 2 MB, in WebAssembly) and processes each photo on your device. The main image in the file is used, with the rotation the iPhone saved; Live Photos become still photos and Portrait mode depth maps are not included.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ShiftAny Images processes your images directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.

Frequently asked questions

Is quality lost going from HEIC to JPG?

At quality 85 or above the difference is invisible to the naked eye. If you need an identical copy for editing, choose PNG: it is lossless, although much larger.

Why does the first photo take a little longer?

Because your browser first downloads the HEIC decoder (about 2 MB). It only happens once: the following photos convert straight away, and Safari does not even need it.

Are the photo’s date and location kept?

No. The new file carries no EXIF metadata (camera, date or GPS coordinates): it is more private to share. Keep the original HEIC if you want to preserve them.

Does it work with Live Photos and Portrait mode photos?

Yes, but only the main photo is converted: the short Live Photo video and the Portrait depth map are not included in the JPG.
