- Your files travel straight between Google and your browser. They never touch a server of ours, because we don’t have any.
- Processing runs on your device, exactly as it does with a file from your computer.
- The app can only access the files you pick and the ones it saves to your Drive. Never the rest.
- Access expires after one hour and is never stored. This browser only remembers your name and email so you can reconnect in one click; you can disconnect at any time.

How to use “Compress Image”
- Add one or more photos in JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Move the “Quality” slider: the estimated size of the preview image updates instantly.
- If you like, pick another “Output format” (WebP is usually lighter than JPG).
- Click “Compress images” and download each file or all of them in a ZIP.
How the file gets smaller
JPG and WebP images are re-encoded at the quality you choose: between 70 and 80 the difference is barely visible and the file usually drops to half its size or less. PNG is a lossless format, so it is reduced with a palette of up to 256 colors plus dithering (the same technique as pngquant or TinyPNG): transparency is kept and screenshots, logos and illustrations usually shrink by 50 to 80 %. At quality 100, the PNG is saved losslessly. If an image cannot be made smaller, you get the original back and we tell you so.
Are my files uploaded?
No. ShiftAny Images processes your images directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Which quality should I pick?
75 is a good balance for photos on the web. Use 80 to 90 for printing or showing fine detail; below 60, artifacts start to appear in gradients and edges.
Why does my PNG barely get smaller?
Photos with millions of colors saved as PNG compress poorly even with a palette. For photos, choose WebP or JPG as the output format: savings usually exceed 80 %.
Is transparency lost?
Not in PNG or WebP. If you choose JPG, which has no transparency, transparent areas are filled with white.
How is this different from “Compress to X KB”?
Here you choose the quality and see how much each image will weigh. “Compress to X KB” works the other way round: you enter the maximum size and it finds the quality (and, if needed, the resolution) that meets it.
