How to use “Document Scanner”
- Add one or more photos of the document, taken from above with the whole sheet in view.
- Check the four detected corners and drag any that do not match the edge of the paper.
- Pick the filter (enhanced color, grayscale or black and white) and whether you want PDF, JPG or PNG.
- Click “Scan” and download the document: with several photos, each one becomes a page of the PDF.
How a photo becomes a scan
First the paper is located: the largest bright, low-saturation area of the photo, whose outline gives the four corners, which you can adjust by hand. Then it is straightened with a perspective transform, as if the camera had been right above it, and saved with the paper’s proportions (up to 3508 px on the long side, an A4 page at 300 DPI). The filters work out the lighting of each area and compensate for it: shadows and yellowish tints disappear, the paper turns white and the text dark and sharp. Everything happens on your device, in a Web Worker, without uploading the document.

Frequently asked questions
How should I take the photo so the scan comes out well?
In good light without flash, from above, with the whole sheet in the frame and on a surface darker than the paper. That way the edges are detected automatically; on a white table you will have to place the corners by hand.
Which filter should I choose?
Black and white for text, contracts and forms: it is the most legible and the lightest. Enhanced color when there are stamps, colored signatures or photos. Grayscale sits in between, and “Original” only straightens the paper without touching the colors.
Can I combine several pages into one PDF?
Yes: add one photo per page, in order, and pick PDF. Each photo becomes a page of the same file, A4-sized on its long side. With JPG or PNG you get one image per page.
Is it safe to scan an ID card or a contract here?
The document is processed in your browser and is never sent to any server. If you are going to share it, cover any data that is not needed with “Censor and Pixelate” first.
