How to use “Censor and Pixelate”
- Add the image or images containing what you want to hide.
- Drag over the photo to mark each area (you can mark several, move them or delete them).
- Pick the effect (pixelate, blur or solid patch), the shape (rectangle or ellipse) and the strength.
- With several photos, click “Apply these areas to all images”; then “Censor image” and download the result.
Truly hidden, not just out of sight
Pixelation replaces each block in the area with its average color, the blur smears it with a strong blur and the solid patch paints it a single color: in all three cases the original pixels are gone from the downloaded file, not left underneath in a layer. The strength depends on the size of each area, so a small face ends up as unrecognizable as a large one. Ellipses cover a face without the boxy look of a rectangle. For text (ID cards, license plates, bank accounts) use the solid patch: a fine mosaic or a soft blur can sometimes be read.
Are my files uploaded?
No. ShiftAny Images processes your images directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Can someone undo the pixelation in my downloaded image?
No: the original information in the area is replaced. Even so, a fine mosaic over known text could be guessed at; for sensitive data, use the solid patch.
Should I pixelate or blur a face?
Both make it unrecognizable at the default strength. The blur looks more discreet, as on the news, while the mosaic makes it clearer that something was hidden. With the ellipse, either one follows the shape of the face.
Can I safely redact an ID card or a contract?
Yes: the image is processed in your browser and never leaves your device. Cover each detail with the solid patch and check the result before you share it.
Can I cover the same thing on many screenshots?
Yes: mark the areas on one image and click “Apply these areas to all images”. They are copied to the others in proportion to their size; check each one in case something moved.
Can I cover several areas?
Yes: drag to create as many areas as you need. Drag an area to move it and click its “×” (or press Delete while it is selected) to remove it.
