How to use “Black and White Photo Filters”
- Add the photos you want to adjust.
- Pick a preset (Auto, Vivid, Black and white, Vintage…) or move the light, color and detail sliders.
- Compare with the preview: what you see is what you download; press and hold the button to see the original.
- Click “Apply filters” and download the result.
How the adjustments are calculated
Adjustments are applied pixel by pixel in this order: auto levels (when turned on, each photo’s black and white points are set from its own histogram), brightness and contrast with the CSS formulas, shadows and highlights (they lighten or darken only the dark or the light part), temperature and saturation, grayscale and sepia and, finally, sharpness and vignette. Grayscale weights each channel by how the eye perceives brightness, so the black and white version keeps the photo’s natural contrast. The preview uses exactly the same calculation as the final file. The whole batch gets the same adjustments and transparency is kept.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get a punchier black and white?
Use the “High-contrast B&W” preset or raise the contrast to 120–140 % with grayscale at 100 %.
Can I combine sepia and black and white?
Yes: the sliders add up. Grayscale at 100 % plus sepia at 50 % gives a soft warm tone, like an old print.
What does the “Auto” preset do?
It sets the levels of each photo (its darkest tone becomes black and its lightest, white) and adds a little saturation and sharpness. It suits dull or hazy photos and, since each photo is adjusted from its own histogram, batches shot in different light too.
How do I bring back detail in the shadows?
Raise “Shadows”: it lightens only the dark part of the photo without blowing out the sky. For the opposite, lower “Highlights” to recover clouds or windows that are too bright.
Can it be undone?
Your original image is never modified: the result is a new file. Until you download, click “Original” or “Reset all” to start over.
