How to use “Rotate and Flip Image”

  1. Add the photos that come out sideways, upside down or crooked.
  2. Click “90° left”, “90° right” or “180°” and turn on the mirror you need.
  3. To straighten, move “Straighten” until the horizon follows the grid and choose whether to crop the corners or keep the whole image.
  4. Click “Apply rotation” and download the images.

Rotation, mirroring and straightening

The 90° rotations are exact: pixels are moved without interpolation, so the image loses no sharpness, and width and height swap. The horizontal mirror flips left and right (like a selfie) and the vertical one, top and bottom. To straighten, the free angle (up to ±45°, in tenths of a degree) turns the photo around its center: with “Crop” you keep the largest rectangle of the same proportions that fits without empty corners, and with “Whole image” the canvas grows and the corners are filled with the background. The settings apply to every image in the list. JPG and WebP files are re-encoded at quality 92 by default, adjustable in the output settings.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ShiftAny Images processes your images directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.

Frequently asked questions

My phone photo looks rotated in one app and fine in another. Why?

Many phones save the photo sideways along with an EXIF tag saying how to display it. Once it goes through this tool, the orientation is applied to the pixels and the tag is gone: it will look the same everywhere.

Can I rotate by an angle other than 90°?

Yes: the “Straighten” control turns from −45° to +45° in 0.1° steps, for a crooked horizon or building. Unlike the 90° rotations, the image is interpolated here, so use just the angle you need.

Why is the straightened photo smaller?

Because rotating it would leave empty corners and “Crop” removes them: the bigger the angle, the more has to be cropped. If you would rather lose nothing, pick “Whole image”: the canvas grows and the corners are filled with the background color, or stay transparent in PNG and WebP.

Can I rotate photos with different orientations at once?

The chosen rotation applies to all of them equally. If some are turned left and others right, process them in two batches.
